Possible Printer Scam
Possible Printer Scam Posted Wednesday, May
15, 2002
A department reported to us today that "Teresa"
from I.T. called and asked very abruptly to verify the printer
model and number. When asked what they needed it for, Teresa
replied that it is for her paperwork. "Teresa" also
asked for the supervisor's name and phone number. Information
Technology is not and does not plan on calling departments
to verify their printer model and number.(We verify this upon
installing the printer.) As well, there is no Teresa on I.T.
staff. It is probable that this information will be used for
"Teresa" to send and bill ERAU for unwanted printer
cartridges.
If you get a phone call of this kind, please
do not give them any printer information. Ask them for a phone
number that you can call them back at and then call the I.T.
Support Center at ext.6990. They can verify the validity of
the request.
